Baby Teeth Matter

When should my child first see a dentist?

The American Dental Association recommends that children have their first dental visit by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. Early visits help:

  • Monitor tooth and jaw development
  • Prevent early childhood cavities
  • Make children comfortable with the dentist
  • Provide parents with oral care tips

If your child hasn’t had their first dental visit yet, now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment.

From Routine Checkups to Healthy Habits

Preventative Pediatric Dentistry

Good oral health starts with preventative care. We offer the following services to keep your child’s teeth healthy:

Pediatric Dental Exams & Cleanings

Regular dental exams and cleanings are essential for preventing cavities and gum disease. During your child’s visit, we will:

  • Gently clean and polish their teeth
  • Check for tooth decay, gum issues, and bite alignment
  • Take digital X-rays if needed for a complete evaluation
  • Provide personalized tips for at-home oral care

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and prevents cavities. We apply a safe, painless fluoride treatment after cleanings to protect your child's teeth. Sodium fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral and is used to remineralize and strengthen tooth structure. This is important for the enamel in children’s teeth to prevent cavities. It also helps stop the cavity-causing bacteria from growing in your child’s mouth. It is applied directly onto teeth every 6 months and a great treatment to keep your child’s teeth happy and healthy.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the back teeth to help prevent cavities. They are especially beneficial for children who are prone to cavities or have difficulty brushing their molars. There are deep grooves on these back molars where the enamel naturally isn’t sealed all of the way. When we place the sealant, it makes it so it is very easy to keep the back teeth clean and prevent cavities from forming in those deep grooves.

Restoring Tiny Teeth with Big Care

Restorative Pediatric Dentistry

If your child has a cavity or dental injury, we offer gentle, effective restorative treatments to repair and protect their teeth.

Tooth-Colored Fillings for Cavities

Cavities are common in children but are easily treatable with tooth-colored fillings. These fillings blend with natural teeth and restore function without affecting your child’s smile.

Pediatric Crowns

We may recommend a pediatric dental crown for larger cavities or damaged teeth to protect and strengthen the tooth.

Space Maintainers

If your child loses a baby tooth too early, a space maintainer can prevent other teeth from shifting and ensure proper alignment for permanent teeth.

Dental Emergencies Happen — We’re Ready to Help!

Emergency Pediatric Dentistry

Accidents happen; when they do, we’re here to help with same-day emergency care for kids. Common pediatric dental emergencies include:

  • Severe toothaches
  • Knocked-out or chipped teeth
  • Broken or lost fillings or crowns
  • Injuries to the gums or mouth

If your child experiences a dental emergency, call us immediately, and we’ll ensure they get the care they need.

Is It Time for Braces?

Early Orthodontic Screenings

Early orthodontic screenings can help detect and correct potential issues even before braces are needed. Around age 7, we evaluate bite alignment and jaw development to determine if your child needs future orthodontic treatment. Early intervention can reduce the need for more extensive treatments later.

Healthy Smiles Start at Home

How to Help Your Child Maintain Healthy Teeth

  • Start brushing early – Use a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste as soon as the first tooth appears.
  • Encourage healthy eating – Limit sugary snacks and drinks that can lead to cavities.
  • Make oral care fun – Let kids choose a fun toothbrush and play music while they brush.
  • Lead by example – Brush and floss together to create lifelong habits.
  • Schedule regular checkups – Visit the dentist every six months for cleanings and exams.

Pediatric Dentistry Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Even though baby teeth will eventually fall out, untreated cavities can cause pain, infection, and problems with speech and eating. Healthy baby teeth help guide permanent teeth into place, so keeping them healthy is important.

To help your child have a positive dental experience:

  • Start early – The sooner they visit, the more comfortable they’ll be.
  • Stay calm and positive – Kids take cues from their parents.
  • Use positive language – Avoid words like "pain" or "shot" that can create fear.
  • Choose a kid-friendly dentist – We specialize in making dental visits fun and stress-free.

We offer gentle, patient-centered care to help anxious children feel comfortable. If needed, we also provide mild sedation options to help them relax during treatment.

Children should start flossing as soon as their two teeth touch. We can show them the proper technique at their dental visit.

We recommend routine checkups and cleanings every six months. Children at higher risk of cavities may need more frequent visits.
